I just bought one of these and I have 2 questions. I pulled the drive to lube the U joints. There was a little water in the drive shaft cavity. The bellows are fine. With no gasket, what keeps the water out? I am only familiar with the Merc alpha and the older Cobras (which had the 6 hole gaskets for mounting). I must be missing something here?? What is it? What seals this cavity? Water on the U joints and the gimbal bearing can't be by design.

Second question...what is the gear oil spec for the mentioned Volvo Penta?

Thanks in advance to the Volvo Tech that answers me!

IF there is any water at all in the bellows, something is wrong. It should be dry in there. Is the gimbal bearing smooth?
The drive pushes up against the bellows is how it seals. You are supposed to put some grease on the end end of the drive where it contacts the bellows. That helps is slide into place.

The drive takes GL-5 synthetic gear lube.

I'll check that closer. On the gear oil, is automotive OK as long as it is synthetic. What's the recommended weight of the oil per Volvo?
Thanks,
Scott

just run GL-5 synthetic gear lube on google, you will see.

The GL stands for Gear Lube, the 5 covers the weights. You can get either synthetic or mineral. But you want synthetic.
