ok, so I have a 2000 montrey with twin 5.0. I recentlly upgraded to Edelbrock 4 barrel carbs, and the boat started to have backfire issues, but it did ran great, I checked the timing and now is set to 10 degrees at 650 RPM. Last Year I ha d a problme with one of the coils, Purcahse a new coil and the boat was fixed. this year once im runing the boat for a while ( long enougfh to charge the batt at full), the one engine strat to run roufg. It semm like while i used the trim tab or trim swithc the boat will smotth out, it seem to have too much voltage going to the coil, I disconected the charging lead from the alternateor and we got back fine. the voltages never goes over 14v, I purchase a sierra coil that was direct replacemnt for the original volvo part number and it does not work, it wont even try to run. The replacement new coil it has a interna resistro. the old one says use with externa resistro. My boat does not have a external resistor enywere.
