Model number m25c3. I’ve replaced parts after parts on this thing. Has new pistons and rings, head gasket, solenoid and spark plugs.. it runs great. now the epoxy became loose for the magnets in flywheel and broke. It’s one thing after another with this motor and was wondering what I could get out of it with it needing magnets or flywheel. I’d let the steering cable and throttle control go with it.

Well, it's 20 years old, so not much. The flywheel has an MSRP of almost $500.

Yes I know. I found some used flywheels on eBay for 180-200. Or i can buy just the magnets for around 60. This motor has been a money pit since I’ve gotten it and I’m tired of it. Lol

Can the old magnets not be re-attached? Or were they damaged when they came loose.

1 got broke. I believe the other 3 are still good. I don’t think I can buy them in singles.

Those magnets are bullet proof, have sold 30 of those 25-30 HP motors and non with issues, the magnets are heavily attached to the flywheel with a super glue which isn't mentioned nowhere. Will only break in pieces if a shade tree mechanic bangs Flington's Style side of the flywheel with a heavy hammer when trying to pop it out fast from the upper crakshaft. Better part it out and sell the parts at Ebay, will render more money that selling it as a whole.

I’m thinking about just getting the magnets, getting it going and either trade motors or possibly the whole boat. I’ve had the flywheel off a handful of times, using a impact to take nut off and puller to remove wheel.. it looks like the epoxy just became weak because the 3 good ones were still in place but I easily removed them. I’m thinking the one that broke just got jammed up because it chewed up some of my magneto insulation. Any idea what epoxy to use to glue new magnets?

I don't know if JB Weld type epoxy would do the job or not? Whatever you use, surface prep is going to be key to making it stick so be sure to follow the directions for whatever epoxy you get. I just googled "flywheel magnet epoxy" and got a bunch of info and videos, so give that a google and maybe you will see what works best.

I used this on my Johnson 175 ten years ago and it held up.
