Looking to buy used sea ray 190, 2000 model year. Looking for opinions. Is A 4.3 a big enough engine? Top speed? Thanks.

I suspect you will get a lot of different answers but I would think condition is the key. You can add almost any option after. I have a 4.3 on my 19 foot and I can pull just about anything, lol. My top speed is 55 mph (54.5 on the GPS) Sea Ray is a good quality boat with great fit and finish but I think they are a little heaver than my boat (a good thing in heavy waters) so I would suspect you would see high 40 on the speedo.

My 190 was titled as a 2002, however was a left-over 2001 as they changed to the new hull

with the 220hp 5.0, i was able to hit 50mph

i used it for fishing, going to the beach, skiing, tubing, etc.

the good, plenty of power, the 37 gallon fuel tank could be bigger, however I could go about 120 miles if I watched the throttle.

the bad, really needs trim tabs from the factory. I added bennett sport tabs. then had to change to the shorter cylinder to fit the transom

my dash cooler fell out 3 times, the last time I ended up buying a new one. I usually kept almost 2 cases of beer in it. however when hitting wakes, the cooler would drop

you will want to watch the weather. in heavy seas, the boat will beat you up. make sure to have the bow cover snapped in place if you are going out in anything heavier than 2-3 foot waves. I took a few over the bow, and without the cover, had about 200 gallons in the boat in short order

being a 20 year old boat means that there is a lot of systems that will be near the end of their life. like the soft dash, the seat vinyl, etc.

with proper maintenance, you can keep the motor and drive going. however the soft dash parts are NLA from searay

there is wood in the hull, so you will want to consider that it may need rot abatement in the near future

:welcome: to iBoats . . .

SeaRay is a decent boat. With the 4.3 engine it should do what you need it to do, but might not be the fastest boat on the water vs. anything that has a V8 engine.

I have a 2001 180 and love it. Even though I only have the 3.0, it is still powerful enough for wake boarding and tubing. Mine goes low 40s MPH with 3 people in it.
