get the air box out of the way, remove the bolt on the engine block that attaches the rear bracket, then remove the 2 front bolts up by the stator cover, undo the wire off the back of the starter and pull it out , put some padding on the top where the seat sits so your ribs don't hurt from leaning down inside the ski. I use one of the BIG hollow swim noodles and cut a piece to use for padding just slit it oped long ways and slide it on the opening of the ski so it protects your ribs . otherwise you will be sore for a few days.

Jeff,
This is a 951 engine. It seems to have the rear bracket with 2 Allens that need to be removed. I don't believe there are any bolts up by the stator cover, just the back 2 Allens. Can this starter be removed without having to pull carbs and or exhaust?
Thanks
Ed

my bad thought it was the 787 engine oops. that starter has the 2 bolts on the tail going in to the block directly under EVERYTHING as you saw, if you remove the air box and undo the motor mounts you may be able to rotate the engine so you can get to the starter but I seldom mess with 951 engines BECAUSE everything is so difficult to get to.just do the top bolts on the motor mounts not the hull bolts and undo the exhaust hose to the muffler you should be able to turn the starter side up and hold it with a couple of blocks of wood while you remove the starter

Ed, did you have to take the carbs off? I have the air box off and still can't really see the starter. Thanks Todd
