Hello,

Is the Volvo Penta part #(3857700) for this injector on the injector or is there a GM part # on it? This boat is missing all the injectors and I'm wondering if there is a less expensive fix than $1600. I did pick up a set of injectors off a Chevy truck with the same year and engine. The injector #'s off that are 17019596. I've found out that the this injector's flow rating is 19.4 lbs/hr @ 43.5 PSI.
Thanks,
Matt

The fuel system is Volvo Penta not GM. No part # crossover.

Thanks for the reply!

So even though the fuel rail, wiring arness, regulator, ECM is identical to the auto counterpart, the injector is different? Bummer, I may, for the sake of science, try the injectors anyway. I'll try to post the results in a couple of weeks.

Well the engine runs, but doesn't idle. The marine shop said it's probably the injectors. His guess is that the injectors are supposed to be around 24 lbs/hr. Does anyone know what the factory specs are for the stock injectors for a 7.4L 310HP model year 2000?

Probably isn't a very good answer, especially at 200 bucks each for injectors. Did they do a balance test on the injectors?
There are a lot of things I would suspect of causing the idle problem before the injectors.

Before I put them in I had them flow tested and cleaned. They were able to set the engine at 30* btdc at fast idle.

Your mechanic should be fired, he knows nothing about a Volvo MPI engine. That is not the way you set the timing on an MPI engine.

I'm a fairly versed auto mechanic, it's been a few years, but I have a good grasp on timing and other engine systems. I'm all ears if you wouldn't mind taking the time, or point me in the right direction to get the information.
Thanks.

You could probably save yourself a lot of money by getting a set of service manuals for your engine. The Volvo pn for the manual set is 7797288.
Here is the timing procedure out of the manual.

Setting Timing
The timing procedure for Delco DI systems requires shunting (shutting
off) the electronic spark advance.
1. Start engine and manually set idle speed to 1000 RPM, then do one of
the following:
2 At the 10-way DLC (Data Link Connector), starboard front of engine,
install a Trouble Code Tool A and turn it on - OR
3 4 If a Code Tool is not available, use a jumper wire B and connect
the white / black wire C to the black wire D inside the connector.
2. Direct beam of timing light onto timing grid. Loosen distributor clamp,
then turn distributor slowly by hand until timing mark is set at the appropriate
timing figure.
3. Recheck timing mark; reset if necessary. Tighten clamp bolt.
4. Stop engine. Remove jumper lead or Trouble Code Tool.

Your timing should be 10? BTDC

Thanks Don. I bought the Seloc manual, which I've used to rebuild the engine and re-wire the engine compartment. I thought, since it had been a while, I'd get a little help with the timing.....I've also found that these engines should have the 22 lb/hr as opposed to the 19 that I have in...

Has anyone flow tested the 3857700 injector to determine the lb/hr rating?
