I have a 2000 NSF15B 4cylinder that runs good but will not start without spaying a starter fluid in the carb . It is a pull start . I spray something in the carb and it fires right up first pull . I have cleaned the carb . A friend said I might need a new AUTO-BY-STARTER ASSY so I bought one of those and it still will not start . Any ideas or directions on where to look next would be appreciated . Also , is there anywhere to read or watch a video on how the Nissan motors work ? I just always assumed motors had a choke button you pulled to help start the motor so the whole AUTO-BY-STARTER ASSY is new to me . Thanks .

It's a two cylinder 4-stroke. That model has automatic enrichment based on time and temperature. The ABS works very well, and can be tested with 12 volts DC. If it were to fail, the motor would typically stay rich... so... in your case, odds are that the idle circuit of the carb is probably restricted. Clean the carb... Properly... and see what happens. Tip: there are tiny check balls in the accelerator pump that can get glued shut with varnish.

Thanks Paul . I have "cleaned" the carb twice but I am sure I did not do it properly . I soaked it for around 8 hours and scrubbed and spayed it a little . I will try and clean it correctly and see what happens . Thanks again .

Any tips on getting the tiny check balls loose and clean . I think I noticed those . They seemed stuck so I thought they were suppose to be that way .

You must completely disassemble all parts of the carb -- jets, emulsion tube, accelerator pump, etc... and soak in real carb dip, then liberally spray it out with generic cleaner. You can get a Factory service manual from any Tohatsu/Nissan dealer.
