2000 Mercury 90hp 4 stroke "Only Trims 1/2 way up"
Good Evening,
Just bought a Used 2000 Mercury 90HP ELPTO 4 stroke. It appears to be in great shape but I am having two problems.
1) The engine only trims about half way up and then it seems it does not have the strength to continue. When I trim it up as far as possible (from the trim on the throttle) and then release the trim switch, the motor will sag about 6inches before coming to a rest just below 1/2 way. The down trim works fine. Does anyone know what would cause this hydraulic system to not have the strength to lift the engine? I topped off the fluid and trimmed the engine up and down multiple times to try and bleed any air out, then topped it off again.

2) The second problem is the trim switch on the motor works going down but does not not work at all going up. No click at all. I tried switching the solenoids and still had the same problem so both solenoids work. (Bad switch?)

Thank you very much for any input you have.

Merc150 Thank you for your response, Im continuing the have the problem

I just purged the hydraulic system by raising and lowering the unit 12 times. I refilled the fluid and continue to have the same problem. The only way to lift the engine fully is by manually lifting the engine with my hands. As I pick up the engine I can feel resistance from the hydraulics, but I'm able to slowly raise the engine.

Could it be a leaky seal?
