2000 mercury 240 2 stroke dead cylinder

i just bought a seadoo islandia put one hour on it and it quit running merc dealer said i had a dead cylinder and only option was a new engine about $7500 with labor sounds scary and i'm skeptical any other options???

option 2 is to pull the powerhead and have it rebuilt less expensive by far

no compression on one cylinder all others are fine

according to mercury (through my mechanic) cylinders cannot be bored out any further than they come from the factory. if you know any different please let me know.

two normal options are bore it or resleeve it check with local marine machine shops that do power heads and ask them directly if either is an option for that engine

hone cylinder and install new rings. Before you do it:
Remove piston and show cylinder to engine guy.
Tell him:
My brother is a mechanic and he will fix it. I just need your opinion and here is $20 for your time.
Even if he says "no way it will work" still do it.
