I have a 2000 Mercury 200EFI outboard that runs fine most of the time. Occasionally, it
has a dead spot at 3000 & 4000 rpms--more often at 4000. The mechanics at local dealerships cannot find the problem.
Any ideas????

hi pbaldree,
If the computer says the electronics are ok, then maybe the fuel pressure is low. Just a quick guess tonight.

Re: 2000 Mercury 200EFI

We have a '96 175EFI which stops dead at various speeds, then restarts immediately. Intermittent, but typically gets more frequent and then unusable. Sound similar to your problem? This has been going on for 5 years, and 3 shops including one that the factory uses, can not diagnose. Computer, fuel pump, and voltage regulators have all been replaced. Currently out at shop waiting for some hot shot merc tech to work on it next week. Merc has covered parts and labor because problem was documented every year including the first when under warranty.

By this time, I have little faith they can actually get it figured and we are ready to argue for motor replacement.

The only advice is to document the problem thoroughly including how many hours you are putting on and push like heck to get it fixed right. Would not hurt to call Mercury and get a problem logged into their system...
