Hello Fellow Boaters!

I was checking on my drive, just raised it and note that the exhaust bellow was ripped out right on the middle, proceed to remove ones on the clamps and the universal joint bellow have a hole on it. Could any one of you gurus tell me for a nice tutorial to replace the univ joint boot? The exhaust one does not look that hard but the other one looks kind of tricky. I uploaded 2 pics cause I know we all loves pictures... : )

I went to youtube but anyway I like here better.

Again thanks in advance.

If it is rusty in there from water intrusion you will want to take a close look at the gimbal bearing and universal joints, they will probably need replacing too. You will want to replace the driveshaft, exhaust and shift cable bellows. This is also a good time to replace your lower shift cable. It is best to use OEM parts.

I use original parts on my engines, my concern here is how to deal with the univ joint bellow, I note its have a clamp on tramson side but to the outdrive it just go into place after the adhesive? None of the videos talk about it.

It ran fin last time on water so dont know hows this happend, anyway gimball bearing will go out definetely

Saw Achris video regarding uninstalling and installation of the outdrive, is a great simple video, right to the point. But my question is if the universal joint just slide in into the bell housing.

on the drive bellows, it is glued and clamped on the one end....the other there is a ring that goes into the bell housing that pushes the belows into the housing and that, with pressure from the installed drive holds that all together. The bearing for sure should be replaced and since that drive bellows is gone, replace the exhaust and the shift cable bellows and cable. You do have to have a special tool to align the bearing and check the engine alignment which is a step often skipped in the videos perhaps because they don't change the bearing- you have had serious water intrusion to the bearing and surprised you were not taking on a lot of water. There are also some tricks to installing that shift cable as it is routed along your exhaust. There is also a wrapping around that cable to protect it from the exhaust- be sure to pull that off if you try to pull out the whole cable through the gimbal- it will jam up otherwise like you would not believe- don't ask. It's not a real tuff job and there are a lot of YouTubes to help you but there are a couple of special tools you need. The exhaust bellows will not leak water in the boat but that drive one and the shift cable bellows can sink your boat do not put it back in the water until you have it fixed!

Stay with this thread. Keeps everyone who is involved on the same page. Lots harder to keep up if you start a separate thread.

Look at the manual carefully on the drive bellows- I had mine installed into the bell housing wrong- there are two ridges so look at the manual and make sure it is in there correct!

Also the exhaust bellow comes with 2 aluminum “taps” that goes to the Top side, those ones holds the clamp in place.

Anyone know if the bell housing have some torque spec regarding the hinges?

I have service manual for the engine, Outdrive and Tramson, they tell about transom and outdrives torque but not about the bell housing. hinges... for just those 2 bolts. Maybe 68 nm - 50 lb-ft, like the outdrive, prop use 55 so its too much. maybe little less. just saying

"snaped" bolt is just a Continuity Circuit washer, so bolt has to be replaced no matter what
