I would appreciate any advise to help me get back out on the lake fishing. After launching, headed about a mile out and motor abruptly died. It would re-start, but dies after 2-3 seconds. I checked all I know how to, in terms of fuel filter (cleaned), plugs (replaced), and getting good spark and fuel to plugs as far as I can tell. What-the-heck's wrong with it?

Corps Vet

PS: I forgot to mention, I had a barrel full of water while working on it. After each time it started then quickly died, there were bits of carbon floating in the water.

Corps Vet

Hey CorpsVet,
Are you sure you're getting fuel to the cylinders? Check the fuel delivery system from the tank through the carbs.
Backlash (also a Corps vet ;) )

Thanks for the input, Backlash. I'll follow your advise this weekend and let you know what I find out. I do know that my filter bowl lowers when it starts and fills up again. I also noticed that my squeeze bulb seemed exceptionally hard to squeeze. I'm wondering if my tank vent may be clogged. Heck, I'm not sure where my tank vent is (I have a '00 Bass Tracker 165).

By the way, Semper-Fi. I was a F4-Phantom Phixer for 10 years, 67 to 77. A shame my jet engine mechanical experience does not help me much on small gasoline engines.

Thanks,
Corps Vet

corpsvet

Do you have a built in fuel tank or is it a portable?
If it is a portable most of them have the fuel vent on the filler cap, it must be open. It sounds to me like the problem is a closed vent. If it is a built in tank there may be a kink in the vent hose.

BTW I was an AF survival instructor 1957 - 1965.
