i own a 2000 martinique 2400 with a 5.0l engine that will not start. i followed the procedure that Don S detailed on the "Trouble shooting your starting system" i have power all the way from the battery to the ignition switch, to the throttle, relay and finally to the starter. i also have power from the batteries to main port of the starter.
when i turn the key the gauges move a little and i hear a small whining. no clicking in the engine and no starter action what so ever.
a little history on the boat. the aft end was submerged and the water intrusion came up to the exhaust manifold. the water did not reach any of the breakers in the engine compartment nor the alternator. the starter however was submerged and damaged. i replaced it with a rebuilt one of the same type and ensured that it was a marine starter.
this is my first boat ever and it is my understanding that there might be a kill switch, and a blower.
please help.

Anything electrical that was under water (like the starter) is dead and needs rebuilt or replaced. From there, what is the engines Mercruiser serial number.

Well for one thing, you have a Volvo Penta engine, not a Mercruiser, so I will move this over to the Volvo forum for you.

Is the battery fully charged? Are the cables on tight? Are you sure the wiring on your new starter is right?

i purchased two marine batteries with 850 CCA each, and ensured that the cables are nice and tight. as for the starter i am pretty sure that it is wired correctly, but i guess it does not hurt to try to find a diagram some where on the internet. i have google information for it before but have had a realy hard time finding anything.

you don't have to google it, hard to say what you would end up with, probably every thing but the truth.

Here is the diagram for YOUR engine.

Re: 2000 Martinique 2400 wont start

thanks for the diagram. i used a little test light to make sure that i am still getting power to the starter. the lead from the battery is hot, the purple wire gets power when the key is turned, but i still dont get the starter to turn over. i guess the final step is to figure out what is the voltage to the all the leads of the starter. can you tell me what voltage i should be getting to the purple and yellow/red wires? and the other question is, would a sized engine have this effect or would i be able to hear the starter trying to turn the engine?
Thanks
