Is this generally a good engine or something to stay away from. I'm thinking of buying a boat that has one for Mexico and don't want problems. Ant pros or cons appreciated thank you

Welcome!!

Thats generally a good motor. It under went minor changes to the basic desing which started in 93.

Since you say its an Ocean Pro we assume its a carb'd motor not fuel injected, right?

I have two of these motors with about 300 hours on them and they are very reliable and strong motors, had a timer base go on one a couple of years ago, but other than that and regular maintenance, they just take gas and oil, and a lot of it, they are thirsty motors, which isn't that fun with gas being about $3.50 on the water now. Good luck.
