2000 Johnson 130 HP Question

Hello ... first time on the forum. I am about to buy a used boat with 2000 130HP Johnson 2-stroke outboard (model J130VXSS). I have heard some mixed opinions of these motors (heard that some of the newer Johnson motors have design/engineering flaws ... not sure if it includes this particular model). Does anyone have some insight as to the pros/cons of buying this motor? Would you advise me for or against buying? Thanks so much!

Ahoy, Gorilla.<br /><br />2000 was not a banner year for OMC products quality control, but engines that have had any initial QC problems corrected have done well.<br /><br />Seems to me that the 130 you are looking at would have any qc problems cured by now.<br /><br />Good luck.

Cool ... thanks JB. You are probably right. I believe the boat (and motor) only have about 20-30 hours on them. The seller has had the 20 hour service done ... so hopefully it has been used enough that any problems you speak of would have surfaced by now. Again, thanks.<br /><br />-VG
