Hi, How are these boats? It has a 40HP Mercury on it. I will be on a river mostly and sometimes in a harbor area. Is this a good buy for $6k? Thanks for any input.

Paul,

Haven't heard anything particularly bad about them.

Does that price sound good? It is under 50 hours on freshwater use only. Thanks

I bought this boat as my first boat. It was too good of a deal to pass up for $6500.00. It has about 50 hours on it and all freshwater use. It was garaged too. Anyone care to guess how fast the 40hp mercury triple will push it? It weights about 1000lbs. Thanks for any info.

Paul

Your boat weight is about a 1200 lbs the
Max. Weight Capacity 1175 Lbs. (w/ 5 Passengers)
So with a full load of 2375 lbs (Passengers, gear, motor, fuel etc)

The Merc 40 should push that it around 23 MPH.
Less load more sped of course.

The boat is rated for a 90 but that I think would be a bit of overkill as most boat rating are today.

However 40 to 50 HP seems to be the most common power.

Enjoy it :)

If you reduce the load by 450 (3 150 lb passengers)

Your speed would increase to about 26.5

This of course is just theory run and see what you get.

The other factor here is how the motor is propped.

If your load going to average 2 people aboard the you could go to smaller less pitch prop to bring up your speed some.

Factory props are a middle of road as to dia. & pitch.

A Prop shop could help you select the correct one better than anyone here.

I'm lucky to have a prop shop that lets me try one and we go from there. (bigger, smaller, cupped} whatever

Ideal is a prop that will get you max RPM without over reving the engine or cavitating
