I was crusing at about 4000 rpm's and boat started to sputter then shut off.
had it towed to the dock, first thing I did was pull the plugs because I had a feeling it was a motor problem. when I pulled the last plug on the top of the starboard side it came out looking real bad, got a light and it looks like chucks of the piston are in there.

anyone ever seen this problem? if so what the heck causes it?
am I looking at a whole new motor?

If you can, pull the head and take some really good pictures and post them. Someone will give their opinion, you can be sure of that.
I'm not up on the issues with the Ficht motors.
Again, someone will give their opinion, you can be double sure of that.
Lot of Ficht-haters (well, strong dislikers :) ) here.

Generaly the 90 degree v6 motors that ran the ficht system didn't have the volume of problems that the 60 degree motors had. However the culprit could still have been the injector to that cylinder. depending on the severity of the damage, it is possible to have a service shop rebuild it. Will be to much for most people to tackle due to the comlexity of the computer controled environment of the system. good luck.
