I am not familiar with this process. What equipment do I need to buy and how do you do this? I compression checked a this 4 stroke and got some crazy numbers.
Thanks guys.

the equipment is rather pricey, unless you do this for a living find a shop that will do it for you, takes 15 min on the F115.
if you work on gas engines for a living its a very useful piece of test equipment that will work on everything from a weed whacker to a piston engine aircraft.

I just went through someting similar. My overheat buzzer went off and when I got home, #4 cylinder was 1/2 the compression than the rest...tested several times, same thing. I removed the plug and injected some oil directly into the #4 cylinder, then the compression came back to normal. Ran it on the muffs, and the compression was still normal. Tested it the next week, and it was still normal. Took it to the shop ($150), nothing was wrong with it. This was killing me. I Have been using it since, everyting is normal. I have been told that sometimes the rings may stick and then release themselves in which this will have no effect going forward. According to the shop, they told me to just continue to use it and not to worry, it is in great shape. Try the oil thing and see what happens, it is worth a shot.

Re: 2000 F115 Leak Down Test

why not simply try the factory reccomended LEAK DOWN test and be sure.
its quick pinless and far more accurate than a compression test as it actually measures the ability of the cylinder to seal. and if it takes to much make up air to maintain the specified cyl pressures you can tell if the leakage is past the rings, intake valve, exhaust valve or head gasket.
the F115 can be tested by one person with 2 revolutions of the flywheel in 15 minutes or less.
