Hello to all . I have read alot of threads here on the subject of putting a 4 barrel carburetor on the volvo penta 5.7 vortec engine, and to be honest I am completely confused on whether this is a direct bolt on or if it requires an adapter plate. I purchased a edelbrock 1409 new and am aware that the 2 barrel plate will have to be removed. But !!! is it or is it not a direct bolt on ? Thanks for your help and patience. John

You need the proper manifold, not an adapter plate. If you use an adapter plate, you might as well stick with a 2 bbl carb.

Hi Don, The Volvo Penta has a 2 bbl plate bolted to the top of the intake and when removed becomes a opening to accomodate a 4 bbl. but not sure if its spread bore or square bore or something else. Is this not acceptable to put a 4bb on this set up ? thanks, John

Misunderstood what you was saying in your first post about the adapter plate.
Just remove the adapter plate and look and see what is under it.

It is a GM dual plane square bore . So in my mind , the Edelbrock 1409 should be a direct bolt on. Any concerns on this set up ? Thanks, John
