Re: 2000 Chaparral sunesta 233
Below are a list of problems that have happened during our first 50 hours of boating last year with on brand new 2006 Chaparral 246 ssi. The first group happened during the first 20 hours.
Coming from a 2003 SeaRay 185 Bowrider this was a major upgrade on our family’s budget and but we felt that we were purchasing quality with this next boat and was my justification for the cost. I felt that someone or the whole team at the manufacture has let us down, bigtime!!
• Swim ladder at the bow came off the first time someone used it
• Swim platform arrived to the dealer damage and had to be wet sanded & buffed
• Snaps to secure carpeting came out of flooring, the screws were over tightened
• Chrome vents (engine compartment outside of boat) came unscrewed and fell out
• Key ignition cylinder on dash board had to be replaced, would stick when cranking(starting) engine
• Steering binding at the wheel by the tilt wheel adjustment, replacing steering box behind dashboard
• Gauge 4 in 1 with trim and other temperatures had to be replaced fogged
• Stereo had a constant buzzing at low volumes, amp had to replaced
• The screws in the wood trim on dash board were install incorrectly and were back out and set back in and now the wood trim around that area needs to be replaced
• Swim platform ladder in rear had to have bushing replaced broken
• Glovebox hinge broke
• Bumper for windshield in the center section that the glass rest on when open came off
• The seal along the windshield (center section that opens)come off
• The head liner in bathroom ceiling fell down (came unglued and separated)
• The passenger seat had to be replaced because it caused a rust mark on the flooring and carpet which I can not get out now
• The turn lock on center windshield spins freely and does not help secure windshield closed.
• Trim cover for screws in bathroom came off now left with bare screws showing
• The sink between the bowl and counter not sealed and water comes into compartment below
• Depth gauge gives misread on depth when under left turns and can not figure this one out????
• The canvas package: bow area the material around snaps is fraying and coming apart and on the cockpit cover has more fraying.
• The bimi top of the wake tower had a cover which said Chaparral on it the snaps on it are fraying apart
• Courtesy light on the flooring did not work first time used
• Seat cushion its support brace broke
The best part of the boat was something they did not build the powertrain , the Mercruiser 6.2 has been perfect, but the quality of the boat has been a disappointment. I guess my main concern is if this work ethic to quality for the trim items has carried over to the boat production in terms of its hull, I could headed for trouble down the line?
