Hey guys,

So this weekend i was getting the boat to change the oil, filters, etc. to get it all ready for storage this winter. I went to start up the boat in the driveway with the water hooked up and it started making a horrible sound. It was like a grinding sound coming from the prop shaft/transmission area. The prop was spinning and it was like the transmission was in gear when you started the motor but the lever was in neutral. Does anyone have any idea what this could be? The last time it ran was in the water and it ran flawlessly. Im really confused here.

The boat is a 2000 Ski Sanger SangAIR edition with the Black Scorpion. Direct Drive.

Thanks!

When the oil is cold, the prop shaft will spin in the air, in the water the resistance from the water keeps it from turning.
Your noise is probably the rubber strut bushing being dry with the shaft turning inside it, it will make a heck of a noise. Spray some water on it while running and it will quiet down.

Thanks don! Where is this strut bushing? Under the boat or in the engine compartment?

In the strut just in front of the prop.
