My Lower Unit is Leaking and allowing water in,
I replaced the Prop shaft Seals but the condition of the matting surface on the Prop Shaft Bearing Carrier was cracked and corroded.

Unit is 2000 Honda BF 130a
Serial Number BZBE - 1100240

Diagram is attached for reference Part 10 is the Bearing Carrier.

It's right engine of a twin pair and is standard rotation.

My Lower Unit is Leaking and allowing water in to the lower unit.

I replaced the Prop shaft, drive Shaft, and Gear Shaft, and Seals in the Spring but the Oil is still leaking out the Exhaust area of lower unit.

While changing the Prop seals I noticed the condition of the matting surface on the Prop Shaft Bearing Carrier was cracked and corroded but when tested with air amazingly this is not where the leak was.

It seems like the O-ring on the inside of the Prop shaft Carrier is what is leaking.

I babied the unit this summer draining and adding new oil before most uses to get through the summer, but with fall here I am thinking of replacing the Prop Shaft Carrier and the O-Ring/Seals.

I have the Manual and it calls for taking the entire shaft out of the lower unit.

This might be a horrible idea or AlterNet solution , so if it is just say so so I can learn from the feedback.

After watching a bunch of u-tube video on removing the Prop Shaft Carriers using a Puller instead this seems like an easier fix as the Prop shaft would remain fully engaged in the lower unit as the Puller would press against the Prop shaft and Pull on the bearing carrier and slide the Bearings and Carrier up the Shaft. I could then take the new Carrier and Slide/press it back onto the Shaft using the Screws that attached the Prop Shaft to the Lower Unit.

If the shaft needs to come out what does that do to the Shims, it it hard to reassemble?
