Looking to buy my first boat,
2000 bayliner cpari 2050 LX with the 3.0 135HP engine.

Is that underpowered for wakeboarding and skiing?

Thanks!

20' with a 3.0? Yeah that's underpowered.

You will need a couple different props for it. One for everyday (speed) and one for skiing/wake boarding.

Just cause its a little motor doesn't mean It wont work.

Do your self a huge favor and test the boat in the water before you buy it. Take a friend that knows something about boats. Listen to them, if they say no, take the advise.

Surprised they'd even offer that motor.

For sure take any such boat out for a test before pulling the trigger, especially if you're considering something on the lower end of the power offernings.

Depends on what you intend to do with it. With 2 people it might me ok. Definitely won't have lots of top end or power for watersports.

I had the 1950 version of that boat with the 3.0L It did okay, but it would be better suited with 4.3L, and would be great for water sports/fun factor with a V8!

good luck!

Ive got a 99 2050 with a 5.0, and would not dream of having anything less

I have an older 1950 basically as well, and the 3.0 is marginal but will get the job done. I've wakeboarded behind it just fine with 3 in the boat and me behind. That was with a 3 blade 19P. Bayliner is known for offering the base motor as far up their line as they can. Honestly everyone likes more power, but you are only going to go so fast for watersports and the 3.0 can handle that speed with ease. Some will argue holeshot but a smaller pitch prop will get you that.

And not to start yet another argument, but you will get lower fuel usage and maintenance costs are lower on a 4 cylinder. I'd rather have a 4.3 or 5.0 (5.7 preferably) but my boat gets around just fine.

Then again I like my 650cc motorcycle just fine, since I can kill myself at 125 just as easily as 175.

Well put. A good friend had this same boat/motor combination and it worked just fine with the right prop. It topped out at about 37 or 38, but would pull my fat butt up on a slalom ski. With the speed prop he saw speeds up around 44-45but would barely get itself out of the water....much less a skier.

Everyone loves power, but the 3.0 is a good, reliable powerplant when properly maintained. Pretty thrifty with gas too. If it was reasonably kept up I think you've picked out a very nice first boat.
