I purchased a used 2000 90hp johnson so i do not know any history, put the boat in yesterday ran great. Sat at the dock overnight and I used it this morning for a few hours but when I came in to dock the motor tilted slow and stopped about halfway through the tilt....wont go up or down. trim/tilt motor is running just not moving the rods. I topped the fluid (not that it needed it) still no movement. Now I would have used the manual release valve however before I purchased the motor someone has put J.B. weld on the screw. Any suggestions?

Sounds like it is low on fluid. See if you can get it tilted all the way up. Have someone help it to tilt, while you operate the PTT motor. Let her sit a few minutes and then refill. Repeat a few times. Hopefully the air will bubble up and out, so you can add fluid.

The boat is in the water so no way to really have someone try to lift it. When i remove the cap it is full, so possible there is a air bubble in the system but how would i get it out without a manual release valve? Could the valve itself be bad and not allow fluid to pass?

Is this a salty dog?

I would guess that the JB weld is there because there was a leak at the manual release screw. Maybe they replaced the O-rings and it did not seal or mayb they just JB welded it...

Either way you will find that you need to pull the boat and service the TnT.

If you were to get a plastic mallet or handle of screw driver and gently tap on the valve body, not the electric motor, it might jar the check valves/balls loose enough to get it to move so you can pull the boat and service it.
