2000 50hp Johnson troubles

50 hp Johnson with very little run hours is possibly going into SLOW mode with no indication.Have OMC tach with alarm indicators built in.After a period of time running between 4000/5000 rpms motor begins to cut out with no warning. When rpms are reduced below 2400 motor runs fine.If you turn the ignition switch off then back on engine runs fine for a period of time then begins to cut out.

moter is going into slow<br />check temp to be sure its not overheating<br />if temp ok remove ignition plate (where pack is mounted) and look at wire harness for chaffing<br />some of these blocks had rough edges which can chaff harness repair as required

I have not found any bad wiring so far, however when testing the temperature switch circuit I got the alarm light but not the horn , but when you put it threw startup self test diagnostic you get both.Could a bad tach possibly create this problem.Thanks
