Hello folk's, I have a 2000, 25 hp Johnson, manual start Model J25RSSE that has 3 wires under the hood with protective caps on them. The wires come from the stator and I assume they are for charging a battery. The wire colors are solid yellow and two yellow wires with blue stripes. Would anyone happen to know what these are for?
If they are for charging would I need an external voltage regulator?

Thanks

They can be used for low voltage AC lighting as is, or they can be used for charging the battery by adding a 4-wire rectifier.

They are from the charging coil.----Is the rectifier there ?----------No voltage regulator used on those.

as above by adding a four wire rectifier.

If you look at the parts lists you will be able to find the part number for the rectifier normally fitted to electric start models along with the other "bibs and bobs" to complete the installation.

You can ignore the grey and blue stripes on the yellow wires when connecting to a rectifier. An after market one will probably only have plain yellow wires anyway. They are only important when wiring AC lighting.

The red wire from the rectifier is the DC positive and the case is negative
