2000 200hp Saltwater series ,Replaced trim cowl switch, what is this retainer piece???

Just replaced the trim switch.There is a retaining plate with a thin rod aft of the switch.What is being retained?? The trim switch is routed under that retainer and rod.I would need to remove the retainer plate to get the old switch out of there and to route the new switch wires.I already replaced the switch leaving the old one under the retainer and routing the new wires over the retainer.I dont know what the retainer is holding or what the rod is so I am apprehensive to fiddle with it if not necessary.Anyone know what is aft of the switch??? What is the model of the motor? They are not all the same.

I suspect you are talking about a bracket. The bracket that holds the switch in place. Not understanding how you installed a new switch without having removed the bracket.

The retaining plate/bracket in question is "Aft" of the trim switch or lower in the pic.The pic is prior to my changing out the switch.The switch and switch bracket is in the top of the pic.
