Installed new stator today and of course I have problems. After installing and attempting to start engine fires up for a second and then will not start and labors while cranking (like engine is tight or jumped time). If I kill the ignition the engine turns freely, I am thinking that I screwed up the timing or trigger when I removed stator. I did not change any of the trigger connections or linkages, if throttle is advanced trigger turns freely. This engine would run with the old stator until engine became warm then it would die until engine is cooled down. This engine is a 2000 EFI 175 HP Merc, does not have switch boxes. Wires from stator run directly to the coils (coils are CDM). Any special procedures while installing stators? Anything in particular to look for?
