I am wondering if the excessive quantity and burning of oil is typical of this particular engine.I don't have specifics however, being a long time boater,it seems to me to be unusual, especially at lower speeds. The engine runs fine -just wondering if there is any kind of adjustment ect.Thank you Andy

A little extra oil is a small price to pay for not blowing up an engine. By excessive do you mean it smokes excessively? When they are cold they do tend to put up a bigger bluer cloud.

Model # is ?----I believe the VRO system can be checked to see if it is pumping the correct amount of oil.-----Or is it a direct injected FICHT model ??

Just gonna throw this out here:

1. Assuming it's a VRO 2 stroke.

2. A fuel restriction can result in over oiling and excessive smoke. The VRO doesn't really know that its pumping the proper amount of fuel while at the same time it pumps the same amount of oil based on engine pulse.

3. A length of clear hose can be plumbed in after cowl fitting and before VRO. Into this hose tee in a vacuum guage. Satisfactory test would indicate no air bubbles in clear hose and less than 4"/hg vacuum.

4. Both excessive vacuum and excessive air bubbles could result in increased oil consumption.

In addition to what Jake said. If you are running the OMS oil pump, and you have an air leak in the gasoline supply, the OMS pump will pump more oil into the fuel mix. You will see clouds of smoke, marking your course.

Check the mainstrainer under the airbox of air leaks, as well as any other fittings, filters, etc. in the gasoline supply.

Thank you for the responses -away for a while. the engine is the two stroke VRO.I have noticed a slight loss of primer bulb pressure during the start up of engine,The bulb needs to be reprimed after first failing attempt to start. The engine runs great, however it does smoke a lot at lower RPMS.I will check for air leaks.Andy

The bulb is a manual fuel pump.-----Used to fill the carburetors.-----It does not remain hard once motor has started.----Have your local shop run a test on the VRO pump to see what it is doing !
