I've got a 2000 150 OX66 (SX150TXRY) that has a nasty electrical gremlin and I'm hoping that the brain trust here might be able to help out.
The engine would occasionally quit and not restart for a while (15min - 1+ day) then it sat for 3 years and got moved to a new boat. The only thing that changed was the key switch and binnacle. Ran with 0 issues for 3 years on new boat. At the end of season 3 it would die once in a while and now won't restart.
To clarify by restart I mean it won't crank, solenoid doesn't click, etc.. expect for 1 thing. When I turn the key to "on" the high pressure pump fires up (as it should) and then will not shut off until I cut battery power. (pull main fuse or turn off battery switch.
There was also a week or so period where if it sat overnight it would would crank/start on the first hit of the key. After that, nothing.
There was also one occasion where it started on the first turn of they key, but, would not turn off. I had to pull spark plug wires until it shut down.
Things I have tired.
-new key switch
-new main engine cable (console to engine connection)
-continuity tested pretty much everything I can think of
-new neutral safety switch (in binnacle)
-clean as many grounds as I could find
-hook freshly charged and load tested battery directly to engine power cables
-pull out my hair, talk to it sweetly, yell at it....
Any guesses on where to go next are greatly appreciated.
