This will be the second Ive replaced after changing poppit or blow off valve from the smooth to the grove 98 version the regulator is still getting cooked the motor is not running hot per guage or performance," this time I put a fuse on the circuit to prevent a fire or total meltdown of the components I think Im going to have to vent this one DHadley Or SeaHorse but I need more specific instruction or someone to tell me what else can I Do I do have a Daul battery system on the boat but very seldem use all or both batteries at anytime Usually on battery one. Re: 200 regulator Dhadley or Seahorse Help

Anytime we see a problem with a water cooled reg/rec, we like to vent the block. The poppett valve is supposed to do that but it isn't in the highest part of the block.

I would also look at all the connections including the ones on the back of the battery switch.

Also if the water pressure isnt what it used to be or its been a couple of years since the pump was replaced (complete - not just the impeller) I would do that too. Be sure to use the hi capacity pump kit.

Were any other changes made? Did you go to a different prop and now run the motor at a higher X dimension? Have you added anything to the transom, like a transducer or speedometer pick up?

Good luck!

Elaborate on what you mean by the regulator "getting cooked". Does it quit charging or do you have an electrical fire in it?

The factory regulators come with a 1 year parts and labor warranty. The newest version has no purple wire hookup on it. You are using the factory regulators with the long round "probes" on it, right?, not the old old style with the flat cooling fins. Also the factory regulators have temp switches built in to shut down charging if they get overheated.

On some rigs, I've drilled a 1/8" hole in the center of the blowoff valve. If you run your motor on a jack plate, you may be getting hot spots in the cylinder block due to aerated cooling water.

nothing new added that wasn,t there on the transome besides transducer and speed temp sensor I used all CDI parts this time changing stator regulator and powerpack because when the last regulator went out it burnt the pack and the charge ciols on stator so I fused it this time with a 30 amp fuse to prevent a fire or more considerable damage I will check the battery switch today for resistance and corrosion also batteries for dead cells , maybe causing the regulator to become overworked the boat is a converted Chris craft 211 Scorpion 21 ft with Armstrong bracket looks like the \Wellcraft V20 . Whats happen on the first regulator was that it burnt a hole in the center of it the size of a half dollar ,this time it is getting hot around the section of the epoxy that the wires come up from ,but lucky me I saw the tach go out and the fuse was blown which I new and hoped (for protection) pop in a new fuse and ease my way in to the dock no problems when I took of the engine cover you could see small amount ofisulation from the reg on the engine block along its back not much but the begging of the end of the reg I chose to get CDI parts this time foir warrant purposes Mostly 2 years instead of the 60days from an authorized OMC dealer but I want to remedy the problem before I keep popping these on each year
any suggestions !

Factory parts have a 1 year parts and LABOR warranty, not 60 days. Rapair (CDI) has 2 year, parts only, warranty, no labor, plus you have to send the parts back to them for approval.

Remove the 30 amp fuse for safety.

Make sure there is no melted insulation dripping from the black coils on the stator. You can use a flashlite and look up under the flywheel. There are 3 black coils.

While youre looking under the flywheel make sure all 6 outer magnets are still in place and secure.

Good luck!
