Have a 1993 pro-v P200tlrr that gets overheat buzzer and digital indictor light when we go above 4300rpm for 4-5 mins. Started two years ago and at that time had the water passages on heads bead blasted by outbd mech $600. I had already replaced water pump assy, thermostates, prv and all filters. Ran good for about 3 mos and then started again. Took to another mechanic and he pulled power head and cleaned water passages in foot housing and redid the water passage in heads. Ran for another 4 months and now have same problem. Checked the thermoswitches this week and they check good, talked to the mechanic and he said pull the heads again. Just can't believe this needs to be done again. I have run only fresh water for past 6 years, one guy told me that the water jackets can build up slime on inside. Last time tried using salt away when flushing with muffs but couln't keep the motor running long enogh to keep it cool on the trailer. Just don't know what to do next except pull the heads again. Talked to Yamaha customer service and all they could tell me that I must still have some sort of blockage. I as WHERE. ANYBODY GOT ANY SUGGESTIONS. Oh yeah last paid last mechanic $900, can't afford this all of the time try to do all my own work but didn't know where to go for good advice.

Whats the history of the motor, had a problem with a merc with similar problems turned out the adapter plate gasket was the wrong part number so pulling the powerhead did not reveal any problems took a while to find, so if you inherited someone elses headaches might look there. Are you running a jack plate, trimmed to high?

no jack plate wish I had one, and the motoer ran fine until two years ago, guess I am going have to tear the water system apart again and see if something has come loose cauding an obstruction.

Re: 200 pro-v overheating above 4300 rpm

I would like to add to bassinflats problem. I too have a 1991 150Pro V tlrp that started over heating last March. I replaced Impeller,Housing kit, Thermostats, and new prv . Motor runs fine with 23 to 25 psi below 4300 rpm's. As soon as I advance the throttle past 4300 rpms in less than 3 minutes the Overheat light and horn sounds. No matter what I have done the horn comes on past 4300 rpm's. Same problem as Bassinflats.

Is possible that the cup like stainless steel lining in the water pump is not indexed correctly and the pump outlet is partually restricted. FRED
