200 HP lower unit

I have a 97 model year (built 96) 200 HP, 2.5liter, 25". My lower is shot. I missed an opportunity yesterday to get a used one that seemed to be in good shape. Owner thought it was early 90's. My Climer indicates the ratio on the 175 and 200 are the same but I don't know what years are compatable. Appreciate any advice.

If I tell you, can you tell me if a 93 200 HP lower unit fits a 97 powerhead/midsection?

Don't have that serial #<br /><br />This engine is on a 20' Mako I bought earlier this year. I expected some problems (especially LU) but I got a great deal (clean hull, alum trailer, $3,500). Lower unit was full of sea water and hadn't been changed for over a year. I've put 30 hrs on it. Its starting to make claking noise and have metal flakes in the oil.

I can't give you a definate answer. My guess is that they will, but that is more based on the fact that my '87 70hp bigfoot lower unit will fit my '95 115hp. They do have different part numbers for the housings, but they look basically the same to me. If you can get them both off and see if they look identical on the tops, that would tell you for sure.<br /><br />Lower units are actually pretty simple machines with just a few things that can go majorly wrong (unlike powerheads). They are also easy to get off and put on, so I would ask the person you are buying from if you could try it out <br /><br />Let us know what you do<br /><br />k
