200 efi

My friend has a mercury 200 efi 02 model was on plane it just died wouldn’t start back got it back trolled then next day top plug was carbon up some but it will start but in water won’t plane off some people say crank shaft sensor if not the computer any ideas i not familiar with mercury but I told him I think he should do some troubleshooting before buying bunch of parts

First thing I’d do is get a meter and test the output to the battery. Then output from the stator if all is not well. Other than that, keep it simple like plug health, ht leads etc etc. ignition coil and all that. There might be a compression test in there too, just to rule out anything nasty

I have some to add we rode the boat yesterday the rpm’s act like something slipping rpm’s go to 4500- almost 5000 but not pushing the boat checked prop is not slipping any help I appreciate

Hi. Is the prop vented? With pvs plugs ? Or is there an exhaust bore sleeve ring behind prop that loose ?

How do you know the prop is not slipping....cant test it by hand...is the prop venting ?? Try adjusting the trim ??
