20' wellcraft center console

i have a 1976 wellcraft center console that i have been working on and i want to replace the motor on it has a 1977 175 hp evinrude on it now i will be fishing lakes do i need to have a motor that big or can i go with like a 80 or 125

Sure...you can always go smaller, you'll just loose some performance and speed. Don't know that I'd go all the way down to an 80 but the 125 would be okay. Why are you wanting to go smaller? Are you having problems with the 175?

no not having problems yet but wanting get something that is fuel injected in all of my experiences before i have had a lot better luck with efi outboards

try a 150 Yam.
Look at your boat's rating and stay at or above 70%. If it's underpowered you end up using more fuel b/c you run faster, but on a boat like that you seldom run WOT routinely. It's a fairly heavy boat I bet, so you don;t want to go too low.
