20 or 25 can you help

Just bought a mixed up mercury. TOP cowl is a 25 lower part say 20, both top an bottom have a matching cut out on the left side( looking @ the front of motor) where i guess, was the shifter? IT HAS FORWARD AND REV ON THE HANDLE THOUGH. There is also very little water coming out the pee hole and the dribbles that do seem like an ok temp. serial # is 7204649. Any info would be great. It sure isnt the great motor my 82 115 is.

can I drop the lower end and inch and apply some silicone, seems as if it is losing pressure

Check the hose that goes to the pee hole--this often gets clogged up by bugs and such.<br /><br />There should be a serial number stamped, not cast, into the engine block somewhere. My guess is that the top cowl is the oddball, but that's just a guess.

what year is it... i have a 25 hp that is thermostat controled and until it hits a specific temp... it just dribbles... then pees like a race horse, then dribbles again
