My 4 year old 20hp Tohatsu has just started to misbehave after a number of flawless years. The first episode went like this; a good start, idled well for 5min, then an off idle low speed run for 5 min, after clearing shallow water I applied power and motor sputtered and ran very badly, tried to takeoff several times with the same results. Shut the motor down and restarted and it ran perfectly for the rest of the day. The second episode was slightly different, I started the motor and it was very rough on startup but didn't stall. I shut the motor down with the kill switch and restarted to a perfect idle and a flawless fishing trip. Any suggestions?
