2 stroke oil question

I was just wondering.... since Johnson/Evinrude is owned by Bombardier, is XD-100 basically the same as Sea Doo's XP-S 2 stroke oil? IOW, could I run XD-100 in my 2000 RX-DI instead of XP-S? I was wondering because I can buy XD-100 from Gander Mountain for $30/gal, vs XP-S from the Sea Doo dealer for $40/4 liters. Also, Gander Mountain is about 4 miles away vs 12 miles to the Sea Doo dealer (also on the other side of town)

Re: 2 stroke oil question

A series of copy and pastes:

Rotax marine engines evolved from their very successful snowmobile and motorcycle racing designs. These engines produce more power/cc than any other PWC manufacturer’s engine. Rotax designs these engines to work harder and run hotter than other brands. They simply need more protection than TCW3 oils can give.

New XD100 synthetic formula engine oil, specially blended for use in Evinrude E-TEC and Evinrude direct injection engines, performs well in all temperatures, even down to zero degrees Fahrenheit. When used in Evinrude E-TEC engines programmed by an authorized dealer, normal outboard engine oil consumption is cut in half with XD100 Oil. XD100 Extreme Temperature Oil has maximum detergency for reduced combustion deposits and is smokeless, odorless, and ashless.

I cannot at this time find a designation for the XD100. But you need an API-TC rated oil. Im looking.

XD100 is NOT the same as XP-S SkiDoo oil.

LubeDude, you will not find a TC-W rating on the XD100 as it is designed for BRP motors and not advertised for use in other engines so the rating is not needed. The Merc Opti oil is the same way.

It's NMMA that does the outboard oil certifying, not API.

Re: 2 stroke oil question

Bombardier says not to use TC-W3 oil in their PWCs. I was just wondering if the 2 oils are similar enough to use the less expensive one. I suppose that the $10 difference isn't worth the risk. Thanks LubeDude and seahorse.
