Working on this boat ?. very long story and I don?t want to taint anyone?s thoughts before they answer by going into it.
It has 2 motors that go to one V drive then to one prop. One motor sits in front of the V drive and one in back of it. Both motors have transmissions and don?t worry about motor rotation or anything else but the question. So here goes.
How would you connect the two motors to the V drive?

Never seen a drive like that. But to me the whole thing would be about rotation. The top will work if both motors are the same rotation. The bottom will work if both are different.

Disclaimer

1. It's 5 am
2. This is a guess
3. The V drive must be a true 1:1 to 1 that reverses the rotation.

You would have to hook them as in the lower picture in order to come off the flywheel end of the engine and not have to find a reverse rotation engine, but the you would have to be concerned about how you keep them at exactly the same rpm so you don't have one engine fighting the other and a lot of gear banging.

The reason I am asking everyone is,
this boat was set up like B

This boat won something like 5 championships back in the day.

Reverse rotation motors and props are not an issue and position of the motors are not an issue either. I think by now you all have guessed this is not a pleasure boat but not sure how I want to set it up this time.

I would avoid trying to match the output of 2 engines into one prop. I put 2 engines in a pull tractor once and learned real fast that the bucks should have been spent on one engine.

Absolutely nothing to do with this thread, but, as a Fourth mate i was on a ship that had a single gearbox, triple input, triple output.
Two engines were V14 diesels, the other was a V18.
Centre output was to the single driveshaft turning a CPP.
Other outputs were 2 shaft alternators.
Any combination of input and output was possible. Great setup and allowed the engineers to overhaul one engine while one or two others were driving us.
Oh, and the total available horsepower was 46,000HP.
