I would like to have 2 batteries in my boston whaler, but im not sure about how to do it. I know you need a switch, but all of the wiring is a mystery to me. Can someone help me out? Thanks!
Whaler
I guess really depends on what you are going to use batteries on and also what type charging system you have. Link Boatin Bob good for real simple set up.

What are the two batteries used for? Is one for a trolling motor?

My current set up is like Bob's C type with just a battery isolator and no switch. Only disadvantage with this set up is if starting battery goes bad them must move good battery to starting side or use jumper cable. Still very simple and both batteries get charged all the time. If you want to can also use a switch so can switch starting motor to either battery. Switches can cause some problems.

If one battery is for trolling motor then I think better to keep totally seperate unless you have a large alternator.

I suggest setting up batteries with no trolling motor involved as battery one every thing needed to run boat. Battery 2 all the extra stuff.

Battery 1: Engine and starter / Bilge blower / Bilge pump / Navigation lights / Horn / Windshield wiper / Tilt and Trim motors / Trim tabs / Compass light / Dash Lights.

Battery 2: VHF Radio / GPS / Fish Finder / Radar / Loran C / AM FM Radio / 12 Accessary Outlets / CB Radio / Spot light / Fog Horn.
