2 Battery hook up

I have a 1977 70 hp evinrude outboard i have no manual yet but would like to no about an alternator, is it a regular one or a regulator/rectifier type alternator i dont no where it is locoated on the motor, also what type of battery isolator should i use <br />thanks jim :confused:

Best way to hook up 2 batteries is by a (marine) battery switch. It can be set to #1, #2 or both.<br /><br />More sophisticated is an automatic system. It separates the batteries so that no load (but starting) can ever drain your starting battery. After a start it leads all charging current to the start-battery and once this is 100% it charges the second battery plus trickles the startbattery.
