Osark<br />I you have a battery switch, 1/2/both/off then wire both batteries neg- wires to the engine block. The plus+ wire from battery 1 goes to the battery switch bat 1, the plus+ wire from battery 2 goes to terminal 2 on the switch. The output wire from switch go to hot wire for starter.<br /><br />Alternator will only charge one battery when set up this way if switch is in the one or two postion. In both postion will charge both batteries. In both postion if one battery has a problem then can discharge both batteries.<br /><br />Some switches will blow your alternator if switched with engine running, some will blow your alternator if turned turned off with the motor running. Some switches will not hurt alternator if turned or switched off, These will have a field disconect circuit and make second battery before break first battery.<br /><br />I think best way to charge both batteries is with a battery isolator.
