I got this motor during the summer, used it about 10 times already out in the bay on my jon boat, this past time it ran out. and wouldnt turn on to come back in! I took off its spark plug once home, put in a new one, and it started the first time i turned it on, i turned it off and it wouldn't start again, i took off the cover and there was a little bit of gas leaking at the end of the gas line, my dad said it's probably the float that got stuck, could that be all i should be worried about? Could it be gunked? I accidently left a little bit of gas in it for like a month or so without using it... Also was going to ask about a carb switch with a 3.3 (think i heard about it on here)... any help will be appreciated. Its my first motor and im freaking out a bit.

What year is it? Try disconnecting the external fuel line if it has one or shut off the internal fuel line if it doesn't. Pull the starter cord a bunch of times until it starts and let it the fuel run out. now re-connect the external fuel hose or turn back on the internal one, re-start the motor and let it run for a minute. Then shut it off and try to re-start if you run into the same problem again then yes, it is probably just a stuck float which is flooding out the engine and causing a small amount of gas to bubble out of the carb. For that you'll need to get a carb kit and disassemble and clean the carb or have a boat yard do it for you. Either way, doesn't sound too serious.

Im looking for the year but cant find it, its a newer model, im going to try that, and im going to look up the prices here probably tomorrow some time. Do you know if you can do a carb swap to up the horsepower?

It doesnt appear to have an external hose, just one on the inside of the over, it has a fuel tank integrated with the motor.

What is the serial number? Gas filter clean ? Vent hole on gas cap working ? Shouldn't leak gas - is there a clamp to tighten? Leaving gas in it for a month won't hurt it. When do you choke it to start it?

There should be a fuel shut off valve somewhere on the engine. Try following the fuel hose with your finger from the tank on down to the carb. The stock carb is the only carb that will fit that engine. You wouldn't want to try to mess with the basic engine design anyway. WAY more trouble than it's worth and you'd shorten the life of the motor!!!

Did you remember to put a new gasket on the carb when you put it back? I hope for your sake it's just a plug. (don't forget to gap the plug before putting it in) Be sure to check the carb around the gasket when you restart to look for leaking gas. If it is leaking you just need to replace the carb gasket if you haven't already.

Ok i will look at the gasket, and for the serial number its 0D990080, he tested it out, and said it started and ran just fine when he first tried to start it (beginning with full choke, then half, then once it warmed up open choke). he turned it off, and it wouldnt start after that, but it has a cheap marine plug right now.

Make sure you set the float level correctly next time you're into the carb. Then clean out the carb; check the needle and seat; check adjustments; all bolts tight; all hoses clamped. Any fuel filter ...clean it out. Good Luck !
