I have a 1988 OMC 2.3l with aprox.300 hrs run time. My auxiliary shaft gears that drive the distributor gear are gone. Does anybody have an idea why or what would cause this problem. I have flushed out the motor and I'am waiting for the parts to reassemble it. The oil pump turns freely, and nothing looks out of whack. I also have a question about the installation of Pertronics ignition. Where is the best place to pick-up 12v switched power for the + conection to the unit.

I remember they had a problem with this when that engine was new. But I think it was a heattreating problem with the shafts. We just replaced shaft and gear with new ones. No other changes that I remember.

Thanks Rod Knocking,<br />That makes me feel better that hopefully I don't have other related problems.
