Thanks for all the advice on my previous post. I decided against the boat-too risky! Now I'm looking at a 65 Starcraft 16ft fiberglass with 1985 Johnson 75hp. The motor & boat look to be in excellent condition(the trailer is rusty). I'm wondering about the seaworthiness of this boat,it's not a deep V. Any advice or experience with this boat would be GREATLY APPRECIATED ! Also, a ballpark value? Thanx Again

I am also a first time boat owner. I just purchsed a 1966 Starcraft 15ft w/ the original 1966 mercury engine 65 hp. Cosmetically the boat and motor are in excellent condition. It ran great the first three times on the lake then it died. I think I got a fair deal. I paid $900. But as someone once told me here, "your boat is only worth what someone else will give you for it". I hope this helps.

You are looking at a very old glass boat . WALK, STOMP , JUMP, around on the deck to check for soft spots. Then go to the engine and lift with all your mite on it.Any flex in the transom? If so then dump it.Always remember, we're looking at you and your families safety here.Engine package is more encouraging.Do a compression test. Look at the gear oil and test drive,no matter how sweet the deal looks.
