Re: 1st Time Boat Buyer...Please help!!!
Hey, there are as few things that you should check for
1. Start by checking the hull for cracked spots, make sure that the floor is solid and if possible check the srtingers. Also check the transom for stress cracks ,if you see that there is no stress cracks that should be good..But is you see that there are to many ,take a small hammer and tap the transom in diffrent places .What you should hear is a solid sound..
2. On the engine .... have a mechanic do a compression test on all four cly. they should all have even comp.. 100psi And above is ok.Lower than that or more than a ten psi diffrence from one cly to another ..no good .On the lower unit, unscrew the upper oil plug and make sure that there is no water mix with the oil ...kinda black your ok but if its milky you might have bad seal.
3. Do a sea trail,NEVER BUY A BOAT WITH OUT DOING A SEA TRAIL
GOOD LUCK
