1aez gimbal bearing removal

have a 1965 1aez outdrive. the gimbal bearing has no snap ring but does have a metal ring with two notches in it, does this come out with the bearing or is it a screw in retainer?

Are you talking about the notches pictured here? If so, this assembly all comes out as one unit.

that's it! i think the boat store sold me the wrong bearing and i still can't get the old one out...the pullers don't fit right...should i use a slide hammer type puller or the bar and screw type? that thing is in there tight ,but no snap ring visible...thanks for your help! i wasn't sure what style of bearing it was.

they did sell me the wrong bearing ,hopefully get the right one 7/6/10...u-joints replaced...that was fun! now just lack bellows adhesive and rental alignment tool...fingers crossed ...this baby has to be ready 7/12,i figure I'll paint everything while it's apart.arrggghhh to everyone on the high seas!
