So, I'm in the market for a new boat. I've had a 2005 Merc 115 hp carburated. I've had great luck with it, but my boat sank on a mooring so it's time for something new.

Anyway... I'm looking at a boat with a 1999 Yamaha 2 stroke engine. At first glance, i thought, cool, a yamaha. I exchanged a few emails with the guy and this is what he responded...

"I had the top half of the motor removed and replaced with a non hi psi oil injected unit off a 225 motor four years
ago. The 99 and 2000 hpi motors do not idle for trolling and needed many repairs done yearly. This motor runs and goes good."

This doesn't make sense to me and I'm hoping for some feedback.

Thanks!

What it probably means is, he trashed the HPDI engine and rather than spend the money to rebuild/replace it, he found a used power head off another engine and had it installed. So you really don't know the year or model of the engine.
