Re: 1999 Yamaha 1200 wont start

how did it run when it was started?

that engine needs 3 things to run...compression, spark, and fuel. first step is to do a compression check...report back the numbers on each cylinder.

next step is to verify that you're getting spark. ground each of the plug wires. remove one spark plug and put it into the boot and lay it down on the cylinder head. crank the motor and look for the spark to be jumping. if you have a strong spark on each of the cylinders then it's probably fuel. if you can post a picture of the spark plugs it'd tell a lot...did you replace them whne you bought it?

if the first two tests are good, try putting a teaspoon full of fuel in each of the spark plug holes, put the plugs back in, and try to fire her up. It should start right up. If it's a fuel issue, your carbs most likely need to be rebuilt.

Did you drain your old fuel? I would do this first thing, then check your fuel filters and make sure they are not all clogged up. Don't underestimate the simple things, give it new plugs and add some product called sea foam to help clean the carbs.

Sea Foam does absolutely nothing for jet ski carbs. They are too small. It sounds like you have a fuel issue.

Go through all the fuel lines ane make sure that there is no leaks anywhere that would allow air to get in. Remove the petcock and clean it and replace the fuel/water seperator. If that does nothing than your carbs need a rebuild.

It's not that hard to do yourself if you wish to tackle the job. If not, you'll have to have a shop do it, or another option is that you can remove them, send them to me, and I will do a complete rebuild it with OEM parts and send them back. It will cost you a fraction of what the shops do and if you're not going to a Yamaha place there's a decent chance they will use aftermarket rebuild kits which can be a disaster.
