1999 Volvo 4.3 Gi TBI to carb project questions...

Just picked up a 1999 Pursuit with the 4.3 Volvo Gi. The motor got water into the intake and then sat, which cause all sorts of havoc on the interior and exterior of the motor. Needless to say, I have yanked the intake and heads and will be pulling the block soon and going full rebuild. I have a few questions though since I was not able to find a good source on a TBI to carb conversion website that answered my questions. With the amount of rust and corrosion that is all over everything, I figured it would be much cheaper to switch to a carb setup rather than try and replace all of the TBI components.

I have ordered an Edelbrock 1409 carb and 2519 intake manifold along with some rebuilt 113 Vortec heads. My first question is on fuel. On my current TBI setup, I see what look like to be 2 fuel pumps - 1 mounted on the front of the engine with a fuel water separator under it

and the second is mounted high on the backside of the engine and this is where the fuel hard-lines originate from.

Question #1 - is the pump on the front of the engine the low pressure pump and the one on the back of the engine the high pressure pump? If so, I know I need to use ~6psi for the new carb setup, so could I use just the low pressure pump that's mounted on the front of the engine to supply fuel to the new carb?

Question #2 - The pump mounted on the rear of the engine looks like it sits on top of some sort of cooling box. What is the box that the fuel pump is mounted to?

I'll have more questions soon to come as I dive deeper into this project.

Yes, but will need a regulator to keep pressure no more then 7 psi. Holley and others make a regulator, or get a pump which does not produce more then 7.

It is the HP pump and that is like a float bowl which the pump sits in. The LP pump keeps the bowl full and HP increases it to injection level. Mostly called a vapor separation tank (VST)

Thanks for the reply. So it sounds like the HP pump along with that float bowl can be removed. It looks like there's also water inlet and outlet to and from that float bowl as. I'll just cap those off where the water supply originates from.

Yes just remove
There should be no water going to it.
